Here’s how you can help in choosing which plays are performed.
Chances
are, you’ve probably already got something in mind. If so, you’re half way there.
When you have chosen the play, which you think might be worth producing,
bring this idea to the attention of the committee.
They will need to know
specifically what you have in mind. For
example, you may be asked whether or not you are offering to direct it, or if
you want someone to direct it for you.
In addition, you may be asked which time of year you think this play
would be best performed.
More often than not, it’s
the requested plays, which are the ones that are produced. Therefore, if you don’t like what’s on,
change it! That’s right. You don’t have to be able to act or direct
to say what you like, but you do have to have an idea, as to what you would
rather see. Many people like a good
laugh. Some enjoy a good mystery. Some even prefer the traditional period
play.
Your local library has
access to thousands of plays. Many of
which are in Dorset, and within easy reach.
Why not pay a visit, or take a look at a play guide, which will show you
all the plays available to borrow. Or,
why not come along to one of our enjoyable play
readings, which are often held at the theatre. Please contact us to confirm dates and times.
Or, perhaps you’d like to
investigate a play on-line. We use
Samuel French LTD for many of our productions.
They are play publishers, book leasing agents, and booksellers. You can visit them at - http://www.samuelfrench-london.co.uk
But, whatever you decide to do, make sure you
remember that we’re only able to produce plays which people like you have
chosen. Not only that, but it has to be
possible for us to produce. Be sure to
check the play’s suitability. Will it
offend, or is it appropriate? We cannot
improve without you telling us what you would like to see! Remember though, that the decision of the
committee, is final.
With that in mind, make sure
that what you choose is suitable for the theatre. Your chosen play/s are more likely to be considered if your
production suits our audience type.
This however, is a matter of opinion, as different plays attract
different people.
We look forward to your
suggestions.
